Light Rail Work this Weekend

The HPHA would like to alert members and neighbors to Light Rail work on weekends starting this weekend. Following is a message from our contacts at the Light Rail:

Hudson Bergen will be performing a rail replacement project for the curve at Essex Street and Van Vorst (between Van Vorst and Marin Blvd). This work should help to reduce the amount of noise made as trains operate through the curve. This work is exactly like the work we did last spring at Essex and Hudson.

The work is schedule to be performed over 6 weekends (Saturdays and Sundays). The first two weekends we will be removing the concrete from around the rails. And the four following weekends we will replace the actual rails and replace the concrete around the rails.
The work will start at 7:00am each day, beginning with a worker brief of the job to be completed and identifying all of the safety procedures, followed by setting up all of the safety equipment and work begins with the use of hand tools. At 8:15 we will begin utilizing mechanized tools. Work should be concluded by 6:00pm each day.

Due to changes in our contractors availability and earlier than expect material deliveries the work will begin on Saturday, May 8th. There will be no work scheduled for weekend of Memorial Day.
