Survey to inform new transportation master plan for JC

Residents are encouraged to take the latest transportation survey, located here: www.jerseycitymobility2050.com. According to this Jersey Journal article, the results will be used to create a new transportation master plan for Jersey City.

Don't forget to sign up to be notified of the next public hearing (signup is near the end of the survey), so that you have an active voice in how these results are interpreted.

Light Rail Work Starting This Weekend

The Hudson-Bergen Light Rail authorities have let us know they need to replace the track along the curve at Essex Street (right near Liberty Terrace and Liberty Towers) for safety reasons. Apparently the curves tend to wear out faster than the rest of the line. They'll be putting in harder steel this time, so hopefully the curves will last longer. They have a press release for the neighborhood to explain the work being done.

The work will take 6-8 weeks, Saturdays and Sundays only, and will run from 9am to 7pm.

The first two weekends will be the noisiest, as they will need to jackhammer out the existing concrete in order to get the rails out. The rest of the work should be significantly quieter, though it will include some sawing of the existing track as they pull it out in sections.

Work starts this weekend.
