Boil Water Through Friday

The Paulus Hook area is affected by the water main break - despite news reports stating this is for the Newport neighborhood, all Paulus Hook residents should be aware that this does affect our neighborhood as well.

WATER SERVICE FULLY RESTORED TO NEWPORT SECTION OF JERSEY CITY
Boil water advisory still in effect for Newport residents and businesses

JERSEY CITY, NJ, 10/15/2008 4:29:16 AM – United Water Jersey City emergency crews completed repairs on the 30-inch broken water main last night and returned full water service to residents in the Newport section of Jersey City by about 1:30 am this morning. Company officials issued a boil water advisory early yesterday morning as a result of a main break on 18th Street and Washington Street. The boil water advisory is in effect until further notice.

That means people living or working in the Newport section of the City (from 18th Street and Washington Street south to Morris Street, and bordered by Marin Street on the west) remain under the boil water advisory. Residents in the affected area should continue to boil their water for one minute for the following: drinking, cooking, or baking, making ice cubes, taking medication, brushing teeth, washing food, mixing baby formula or food, mixing juices or drinks, feeding pets, and all other consumption. Water doesn't have to be boiled for the following: showering, washing dishes or clothes.

United Water emergency crews will begin taking water quality samples this morning to ensure the quality of the water. It typically takes between 24-48 hours to obtain results. They will be reported to the New Jersey State Department of Environmental Protection.
