Speak out Wednesday on Taxes and Schools
City Council will be meeting this week to discuss two proposed resolutions that impact our neighborhood, our taxes, and our schools.
We encourage members to attend and speak out on these proposed resolutions.
Date: Wed. 1/23/2008
Place: MS4 on Bright Street
Time: 6 pm
Resolution 1 stipulates that 5% of PILOT payments be given to JC public schools. Schools currently receive no tax revenue from abated properties.
Resolution 2 requires that the mayor appoint two Board of Education members to his tax abatement committee. This is very common in other states where there are partnerships between school boards and municipalities and is done to ensure school funding is part of the abatement discussion.
The public is permitted to attend, but only those on the speaker's list may be heard.
To get on the speaker's list, call 201-547-5150.
