COME CELEBRATE THE EMBANKMENT COALITION'S WIN AT THE STB
If you receive Embankment Coalition mailings or have been reading the local papers, you know that on August 9th the federal Surface Transportation Board gave the city, county and state governments a second chance to acquire the Harsimus Branch (6th Street) Embankment from Conrail on reasonable terms. The Embankment Coalition views this as a HUGE victory for the city and all of the citizens who have worked so hard to preserve the Embankment as an historic landmark and public open space.
To celebrate this victory for historic preservation, the HPHA would like to invite it's membership to join the Embankment Coalition on
Saturday, October 13, 2007,
12-4pm
Resurrection School Gymnasium (Holy Rosary Church Complex)189 Brunswick Street (at Sixth Street)
A full program is posted on the Embankment Coalition website at www.embankment.org. There will be an Embankment garden tour, music, refreshments, and fun activities, especially for children.
The Embankment Coalition also notes SPECIAL HONOREES as follows:
At 1:00pm we will honor individuals who contributed to the STB Petition, including Governor Jon Corzine, U.S. Senators Robert Menendez and Frank Lautenberg, NJ State Senator Bernard F. Kenny, Jr., NJ State Assemblyman Louis M. Manzo, Hudson County Executive Thomas A. DeGise, Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy, Council President Mariano Vega Jr. and Members of the Municipal Council, and the neighborhood associations and individual citizens who sent statements and letters of support to the STB.
We hope as many of you as possible can stop by at 1:00pm since many of the distinguished honorees are actually coming to the event! After all your efforts it's important for public officials to SEE the people who made it and will continue to make it happen.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Meyer
